Explore the madness in Call of Cthulhu

H.P. Lovecraft once said, “All life is only a set of pictures in the brain…there is no difference betwixt those born of real things and those born of inward dreaming’s.” This style of thinking has been taken by game studio Cyanide and twisted into what was the first glimpse into the world of Call of Cthulhu.

For those who may not know, The Call of Cthulhu was a short story published by the master of horror, H.P. Lovecraft. During the short trailer, Lovecraft’s themes can be felt immediately. Game Designer, Jean-Marc Gueney has stated, “you’re never quite sure if what you’re seeing is real, or a symptom of madness, or both.” This brings back memories of the harrowing journey of Alan Wake and the torturous mind games he went through.

According to Gueney, players will be in the shoes of protagonist, Edward Pierce. A private detective that has a habit of trusting his instincts. Pierce spirals into madness during his investigations of murder, whale mutilations, and disappearing bodies on Darkwater Island, Boston.

In Cthulhu mythos, Cthulhu was a massive creature that belonged to a race known as the “Great Old Ones.” This race is a group of ancient powerful deities that once ruled Earth. Cthulhu was known to live in the great depths of the ocean, it is said when people would look upon the creature they would go insane. The fact that the story takes place on the ocean and the main character seems to be struggling with his sanity seems like more than just coincidence.

There is no official release date yet for the game but it will release sometime later this year. Have you seen the trailer for yourself? Maybe you should…
